Victoria Stevens Master of Fine Arts Exhibition

Victoria Stevens Master of Fine Arts Exhibition

The Rippon family has an enduring connection with New Zealand art, and is delighted to provide a contemporary art space for the local community. Curator?Robyn Bardas?MFA brings a fresh eye and contemporary edge to this exhibition.

From 6th October until 12 December, 2017, The Rippon Hall is?excited to bring you ?Ninety? from Wanaka local Victoria Stevens. The exhibition is a selection from Victoria?s Master of Fine Arts installation of ninety individual textiles representing each year her mother lived without her mother.

The works are predominantly hand stitched, and refer to domestic traditions and rituals which women bring to the human experience. On first viewing the works manifest as a family album; literally as an interpretation of all things pleasant, as in warmth and closeness to others, but closer inspection reveals a sadness, a story of loss along with a deeply unsettling sense of foreboding.

Wanaka Medieval Festival

Holy Family Catholic School will bring a slice of medieval life to Wanaka. The tranquil surrounds of the Rippon Hall will be transformed into a medieval village complete with artisan crafts, a knights' encampment, roving musicians, peddlers and much more.

There are numerous free demonstrations and hands-on activities on offer, suitable for all ages.?Archery, stone carving, wood turning, spinning and weaving, bread making, horsemanship displays and hobby horse jousting, trebuchet (catapult) firing, serfs? relays, period dancing, costume making and calligraphy workshops,?to name just a handful.

Medieval times inspire the fantasy and fiction we all love. Whether you are a re-enactment enthusiast or just want to enjoy a unique family experience come and be enthralled by the bravery of our knights in full armoured combat and captivated by the lilting tunes of plainchant and the skill of period puppeteers with life-sized marionettes.
